Doug Wilder & Creigh Deeds

in Creigh Deeds, Doug Wilder, gun control

You've probably read that former Governor/Mayor of Richmond Doug Wilder declined to endorse Creigh Deeds against Bob McDonnell. One of the reasons Wilder gave was that Creigh Deeds is not sufficiently supportive of Virginia's remaining gun control laws. Specifically, Wilder is disappointed that Deeds has taken a stance against the one-a-month gun law.

I for one don't consider the one-a-month law to be tremendously oppressive. I would prefer it be repealed and I understand why it's important to push for maximum liberty in firearms rights. However, I'm not going to vote for a candidate based on his stance on this particular law. It's minor nuisance.

Still, I have to wonder if Wilder's refusal isn't a ruse to boost Deeds' somewhat lackluster rep regarding gun rights?
